Augustus Post, an original founder of the American Automobile Association, driving his 1905 White Steamer in New York City parade. One of the first things the organization advocated for was the building of a cross-country highway. The Automobile Club of Buffalo joined in 1903. Those individual motor clubs included the Chicago Automobile Club, Automobile Club of America, Automobile Club of New Jersey, and others. At that time, nine motor clubs with a total of 1,500 members banded together to form the AAA. The American Automobile Association (the "AAA" or "Triple-A") was founded on March 4, 1902, in Chicago, Illinois, in response to a lack of roads and highways suitable for automobiles. Its national headquarters are in Heathrow, Florida. AAA provides services to its members, including roadside assistance and others. AAA is a privately held not-for-profit national member association and service organization with over 60 million members in the United States and Canada.
